Since 1st October 1999, service providers have been obliged to provide auxiliary aids and services to assist disabled people to access their goods or services. There are a number of important auxiliary aids that greatly improve access for a wide range of disabled people:
A hearing induction loop contains a microphone which picks up the spoken word from the assistant and transmits it as an electronic signal to the customer's hearing aid which is set in the ‘T’ position. The device reduces out background noise which the hearing aid would otherwise amplify and forms an important auxiliary aid in noisy or busy environments.
The portable induction loop is ideally suited for one to one discussions, counters, reception desks or small group meetings. Its simple discreet design allows it to be used without raising attention to its presence.
A fixed counter induction loop should be installed at main service points and counter areas. It has the same functionality as the portable loop, although being permanently powered does not require manual intervention to operate.
Auditorium loops can be either permanent or portable. The loop is placed around the perimeter of the area that needs to be covered, and once installed any number of hearing aid users can benefit from the system. An area up to 150 square metres can be covered with one loop.
Most service providers communicate with their customers in a variety of ways – face to face, Internet and by phone. Textphones are a simple way to enable those with hearing impairments to communicate effectively with service providers offering a textphone facility. We can supply a number of Textphone systems which are compatible with BT Textdirect and Typetalk.
To be effective, internal and external signage needs to be Clear, Concise and Consistent.
There are 20,000 people in the UK who can read Braille, whereas there are
an additional estimated 200,000 people who are registered blind and can read
embossed tactile signs.
We can offer a signage system which allows bespoke tactile signs to be produced
at a fraction of the cost of traditional vacuum formed alternatives.
There are estimated to be 2,000,000 people in the UK who have severely restricted
vision affecting their day to day lives. In addition, 43% of the population
rely on glasses to maintain effective sight.
This external signage has clear colour contrast and varying character heights
to allow it to be read at a range of distances.
8 million people are affected by a disease related to arthritis. Our
Customer Care Pack provides a simple auxiliary aid to assist those with either
a dexterity or visual impairment.
Cheque signing blanks and enlarged pen grips assist visually impaired customers
with the completion of transactions and form filling.
Page and line magnifiers assist the service provider in making all forms
of written material available in font size 14 or above.
